Water Safety and Temperature Monitoring

What it is

We carry out temperature checks on hot and cold water outlets and TMV testing against HSE guidance. We record the readings, flag anything outside the expected range, and produce a monitoring record.

We do not carry out full legionella risk assessments - that requires a specialist qualification. We carry out the routine monitoring that forms part of an ongoing water safety control scheme.

Who needs this

Any premises that already has a water safety control scheme and needs the routine monitoring carried out. Required under HSE ACoP L8. If you do not yet have a written legionella risk assessment, a qualified specialist needs to produce one first - we are happy to point you to someone.

Common questions about water safety checks

Do you do legionella risk assessments?

No. Full legionella risk assessments require a specialist qualification we do not hold. We carry out hot and cold water temperature monitoring, TMV testing and HSE-aligned record-keeping, and we can point you at a qualified legionella assessor when needed.

Who needs water temperature monitoring?

Any commercial premises with hot and cold water systems beyond a domestic-scale outlet, care homes, holiday lets with multiple shower outlets, food premises, salons, gyms, typically follow HSE L8 guidance on water hygiene.

How often should TMVs be checked?

TMV manufacturers and HSE guidance generally recommend at least an annual service for care and healthcare settings, with quarterly thermal disinfection checks.

Do I get a written record?

Yes, a clean, dated record of outlet temperatures, TMV checks and any actions, ready to hand to your insurer or CQC inspector.
